Ken Mastrole resides in Florida with his wife, Kim, and step son Dylan. Coach Ken’s passion for mentoring and coaching quarterbacks and receivers began in 2000.
He attended the University of Maryland where he was a 2 year starter and team captain. Ken was signed by the Chicago Bears in 2002. He also played for the Amsterdam Admirals (NFL Europe), Detroit Fury, and Dallas Desperados of the Arena Football League. In 2004 Ken finished his career as the Arena Cup championship quarterback with the Florida Firecats (AF2). Following the 2004 season, Coach Ken stepped into the role of Offensive Coordinator for the Florida Firecats. In 4 seasons he developed the #1 scoring offense and #1 rated quarterback. His trio of receivers each gained 1000 receiving yards that same year.
Ken Mastrole was rated as one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the country his senior year of high school.
Coach Ken has been well versed in a multiple of offensive philosophies and systems ranging from the run-n-shoot, spread, and pro set. His teaching stem from various coaches who have been successful at both the NFL and Collegiate levels.
Coach Mastrole has developed a number of quarterbacks now playing at the Division I, II, III, and NAIA level. Ken Mastrole works closely with a majority of the top high school program’s quarterbacks around the state of Florida. Coach Mastrole’s ties also include a number of top College programs, Rivals, ESS, ESPN, Sun Sentinel, and the Miami Herald. Current Alumni include: Jake Rudock (Former Record Setting St. Thomas Aquinas State and National Championship and now Iowa Hawkeye QB), Rafi Montalvo (Former La Salle and current Navy QB), Brandon Daughtery (Former N. Broward Prep and current Western Kentucky QB), Tyler Bergman (Former Palm Beach Gardens and current UCF QB).

St. Thomas Aquinas HS 1978-1982
Starting quarterback for the first undefeated regular season football team (10-0) coached by George Smith. Set multiple single-season and single-game records at the quarterback position, and also named team caption in 1982. Was selected all-county first team quarterback in the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and Miami Herald, and second team all state.
University of Pittsburgh 1982-1986
Finished career second in career passing yards behind Dan Marino and third in career total yards behind Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino…Was selected team caption in 1985-86, and is one of only four quarterbacks to start at that position all four years. Led the Panthers to the 1984 Fiesta Bowl setting two bowl records for most total yards (361) and most completions in a single game (31), and was named the games Most Valuable Player.
Canadian Football League 1987-1994
Began his professional career with the Toronto Argonauts participating in the Grey Cup Championship twice, once as a rookie, and then again in his final year with the Baltimore Stallions.
ESPN 2000-Present
Currently works as a College Football Analyst for ABC, ESPN, and The Big East Network. Has been an analyst for college football since 1995 covering the University of Miami football for Sportchannel Florida, and Fox Sports Net Florida.
John has also been selected to the Broward County Hall of Fame in 1999.
Former NFL offensive lineman Garin Patrick has joined Mastrole Passing Academy as the offensive line coach. Garin played 4 seasons as a center with the Indianapolis Colts and the Miami Dolphins. Prior to his time in the NFL, Garin was a team captain and anchored the University of Louisville’s o-line.
