Impressive event heads to Fort Myers Bishop Verot, March 27

The Elite Scouting Services High School Football Camp/Combine season kicks off the 2010 season on the west coast with a March 27 event at Bishop Verot High School (5598 Sunrise Drive, Ft. Myers, FL. 33919).

With three scheduled for this season in South Florida and in the Tampa Bay area, beginning the year in Southwest Florida was exactly what ESS President Charles Fishbein has planned after a successful 350-player event at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale last year.

“Each year, our plan was to add more events in different areas of the state,” said Fishbein, who also organized the first ever-small college combine, which attracted nearly 180 athletes at Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna Prep School. “We set down a formula last year where everyone who attended got a lot from the event.”

Fishbein, along with his staff, had spent years, running and organizing camps and combines throughout the country. To add all the positives and put them into one event was his dream since he began promoting and helping athletes achieve college scholarships.

“We made sure that the event we hosted would be fun for the kids, include the parents and was well run by people who have been involved in football for decades. Quarterback instructor Ken Mastrole of Mastrole Passing Academy and his staff will operate the football side. They all know how to give the athletes the maximum combine/camp exposure.”

In addition, Fishbein called on ESS teammates Tim Norling and Josh Newburg to also come in and help organize.

“The one thing that we wanted to do was to have parental involvement in our events,” Fishbein said. “That is something the completely sets apart from anyone who attempts this.”

The event at Bishop Verot will attracts the top rising seniors and underclassmen in a region that has been overlooked. From Punta Gorda to Naples, there is enough talent to send colleges and universities data and evaluations.

Bishop Verot head coach Phil Dorn and his staff will open their field from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with registration, photos, testing and a pre-lunch sit-down with players and coaches to talk about the recruiting process and ESS involvement with colleges and universities throughout the nation.

After lunch, the players will compete on the football field with drills and instruction mixed in with a little fun.

The cost of you register on line is $30. The price goes up to $35 if you wait until the day of the event. For more information on the combine/camp, call Charles Fishbein at 305-467-4386

Dade and Broward high school quarterbacks making their case nationally

Dade and Broward high school quarterbacks making their case nationally

by Larry Blustein

Lblustein@miamiherald.com

For as long as most can remember, Miami-Dade and Broward counties have been able to furnish major college football programs with talented running backs, receivers, defensive backs and linebackers. The one position that has lagged behind is quarterback.

While there are certainly exceptions to that rule, there has never been a head-turning number of quality signal callers, but that is all changing with the next few classes.

History always tells us that whether it was the University of Miami, Florida State or Florida, getting that South Florida quarterback has never been a priority, but if you ask any college coach across the country — including Miami — the focus has shifted.

Ken Mastrole played his high school football at Cardinal Gibbons, moved on to the University of Maryland, Rhode Island University and then had a brief stint with the Chicago Bears, who allocated him to the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe.

Today, he runs Mastrole Passing Academy, and he has been instrumental in developing quarterbacks in South Florida as well as in the Naples/Fort Myers area.

Mastrole had the keen insight to know that if he parlayed the athleticism that South Florida football players have long possessed and began to work on their mechanics, things would change.

“You look at the way offenses have opened up across the country,” Mastrole pointed out. “So many of these spread formations truly play right into the hands of so many of the area athletes, and you can see he difference at colleges across the country.”

From Jacory Harris and Thaddeus Lewis (Duke) to Eugene Smith (Miramar), marquee quarterback prospects, from South Florida, are starting to turn heads nationally.

A TOP CLASS

The Class of 2011 might be the best example of nationally, regionally and state-rated quarterbacks already making a name for themselves.

Perhaps the biggest name in the class is Northwestern’s Teddy Bridgewater. A two-year starter, the 6-3, 180-pound Bridgewater has been dissected by every recruiting analyst to the point where it has become laughable. From Ohio to California, many fan websites have been weighing in on Bridgewater, and while he has fallen short of winning a state title in his first two seasons, there is no getting around how gifted he is.

At a 7-on-7 event last month, Terrell Owens, after watching the impressive athlete play, said that he reminded him of Vince Young with great field presence, mobility and a knack of find the receiver and getting the ball to him.

Praise like that has come for years, and it’s not likely to stop.

There has never been a prospect like Bridgewater who can play major college football at three (quarterback, receiver and safety) positions and not skip a beat.

“There are so many talented football prospects that I get the chance to work with all the time,” Mastrole said. “I can see from our camps and workouts that there are so many gifted athletes on the verge of becoming very good quarterback prospects.”

While Bridgewater continues to carry the flag for South Florida, he is not alone. From Homestead to Deerfield Beach, emerging quarterback prospects have continued to step.

2011 PROSPECTS

In the Class of 2011, there are Imonni Carswell (6-1, 185, Plantation), Rahkeem Cato (6-0, 170, Central), Jovani McCray (6-0, 175, South Dade), Rafi Montalvo (6-0, 190, LaSalle), Jerrard Randall (6-2, 190, Chaminade-Madonna), Jake Rudock (6-2, 170, St. Thomas Aquinas) and Matthew Vincent (6-0, 180, Flanagan) that are all high Division 1 material.

Add in versatile Ritchy Desir (6-0, 165, North Miami Beach), Bideler Dorlean (6-1, 206, Booker T. Washington), Dane James (6-0, 185, Boyd Anderson), University School’s Douglas Cook (6-0, 175) and Moses Skillion (6-5, 205, Hallandale) and things look much more impressive.

Even beyond the rising senior class, there are some other quarterbacks to keep an eye on such as Class of 2012 prospects

Michael Butler (5-11, 165, Coral Springs Charter), Abe Coleman (5-11, 180, American), Alex Edwards (6-1, 195, Northeast), Elgin Hilliard (6-3, 165, Northwestern), Gunnar Holcombe (6-2, 175, Plantation American Heritage), Max Lescano (5-11, 150) and Austin Whipple (6-1, 165) from St. Thomas Aquinas, Ricardo Louis (6-2, 185, Miami Beach), Bialal Marshall (6-2, 175, Dade Christian), Daniel May (6-0, 160, Hollywood Hills), Robert Orban (5-9, 150, Gulliver Prep), Ghierry Vander Kuyp (6-3, 180, Boyd Anderson) and athletic David Thompson (6-2, 190, Miami Westminster Christian).

“The one thing that can be said about Florida quarterbacks in general is they have more exposure events to develop than in other areas of the country,” Mastrole said. “That is one of the major factors. They are now being developed and trained to play the position and not just being thrown out there because they are superior athletes.”

Quarterbacks

Class of 2012 prospect Abe Coleman (Hialeah, Fla./American Senior) displayed the best arm at the event. Several of the coaches that were working with the quarterbacks were raving about his passing ability. Coleman is not the tallest quarterback at 5-11, but could grow, and has been starting since his freshman year.

Wide Receivers

Caylin McBeth (Hialeah, Fla/American Senior) was recognized as one of the top 2011 receivers during the event.

Both Abe Coleman and Caylin McBeth have been working with quarterback coach Ken Mastrole and receiver coach Matt Dubuc for the past year.

Abe’s has taken his game to another level this past year.  Combined with video analysis, footwork, core strength training, and a developing his stoke path at the Mastrole Passing Academy Abe will look to be one of the top quarterbacks for the 2011 season.

MIAMI FL 11TH grade NUC Schuman’s Outstanding Performance List

Rafi Montalvo La Salle HS, FL

Class of 2011 QB

Report from NUC: Montalvo, 5′11 186, won the QB MVP. Montavalo had a 31 inch vertical, 8′3 broad jump, ran a 4.02 shuttle a had a great arm along with tremendous accuracy during 1 on 1’s.

“Rafi is one of those quarterback’s that have been flying under the radar. He was second team all county as a Junior and will break down a defense with his pin point accuracy and ability to run past secondary defenders” said coach Ken Mastrole.  Montalvo has improved in his ability to place the ball deep combined with his quick release and presence in the pocket.  Look for Montalvo as one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in the state for the class of 2011.

Montalvo also impressed during his showcase at the recent Nike SPARQ event.  Finishing 1st for all quarterbacks Montalvo posted impressive numbers in the 3 cone, shuttle, vertical, and 40 yd run.

NUC Combine

Kedric Bostic (Jupiter Christian High School) was recognized as one of the top quarterbacks at the most recent NUC combine held in Miami.  the 6′3″ class of 2012 quarterback displayed a strong arm and excellent athletic ability.  Bostic, a two sport star (football & basketball) is deceivingly fast for his height.  Breaking long touchdown runs in 2oo9 gave Jupiter Christian coaches a glimpse of the future for the program.  Bostic was selected as one of the top 5 quarterbacks during the event.  ”Kedric has the ability from the athletic and mental side to be a great quarterback” said coach Mastrole.  His work ethic combined with his size and arm will place him in the top group of quarterbacks for 2012.

Max Lescano (St. Thomas Aquinas) class of 2012 showed off a strong and accurate arm during the NUC and Under Armour Combine

Posting sub 7 second times in the 3 cone drill and low 4.6 times in the 40 Max showed off his ability to be a dual threat quarterback for the Raiders.

“Max is a very sound mind and efficient quarterback.  He has the ability to change a game and understands the importance of playing within the offense.  Max has shown the ability to see the play develop and anticipate the throws.  A trait many quarterbacks struggle with” add Mastrole.  Look for Max to compete with fellow Mastrole Passing Academy quarterback Jake Rudock this spring.

An Inside Look at National Signing Day and the Future of College Football Recruiting

Professional Insight with Mastrole Passing Academy Founder Ken Mastrole

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Friday, February 5, 2010) – When watching the coverage of National Signing Day on ESPN this past Wednesday, it became clearly evident that the scope of college football recruiting is evolving at a dramatic rate. Much like the dominating coverage given to the NFL Draft, National Signing Day is quickly emerging as the “next big thing” for the media in relation to the country’s most popular sport.

“When I was in high school, the coverage of National Signing Day didn’t amount to much more than a blurb in USA Today. It was much more of something that was only covered by local media,” said Ken Mastrole, a former Top 10 high school quarterback recruit and founder of the South Florida based Mastrole Passing Academy. “Rarely did you see players break a commitment to a school, and you definitely didn’t see players switching hats on TV when it came time to make their announcement. It’s become a much bigger deal and more of a business now.”

Mastrole was highly sought after following his high school career at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. College powerhouses such as Miami, Michigan, Clemson and Virginia Tech all recruited him hard, and offers poured in from 50 Division I schools by the end of recruiting.

“Recruiting then wasn’t as big as it is today, and it didn’t have the same amount of publicity,” he reflected. “There wasn’t a huge online presence at the time, so coaches spent most of their time on the road to see players in person.”

When all the smoke cleared from recruiting season, it was the offense being run at the University of Maryland that finally drew Mastrole to a decision.

“On National Signing Day, Maryland called me at 7:00 a.m.,” he remarked. “They had recruited me hard, and I had already decided that I loved everything about Maryland. They threw the ball a lot, and I knew their wide open offense would be the best thing for a quarterback like me.”

While the recruiting process and National Signing Day has seen a drastic facelift since then, Mastrole is also quick to acknowledge the rising talent of the players today.

“Kids are better now than ever,” he stated. “These players are much more educated in training and go to a lot more private coaching and camps. Football has truly become a year-round sport, and some high schools have developed into college-type atmospheres. Colleges are now looking for much more polished players, and the kids today are more polished than ever. The game has evolved.”

After college graduation, Mastrole spent time with the Chicago Bears, and he then saw a lot of success with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe and within the game of arena football. He quarterbacked the Florida Firecats to the 2004 ArenaCup in his last professional game, and he then led the Firecats to the most potent offense in arenafootball2 as its offensive coordinator.

Today, Mastrole deals directly with some of the top recruits in the country with his own football school, Mastrole Passing Academy. While receivers and offensive linemen are also trained by his professional staff, developing young quarterbacks to succeed at the college level and beyond serves as a main source of his passion.

“Quarterback is one of the most complex positions in sports,” he said. “A quarterback cannot rely entirely on athleticism. It is a position that you must be very fundamentally and mechanically sound, and you must be a mentally strong leader to truly succeed.”

Mastrole was a player that had to work extremely hard to find success as a college and professional quarterback, and those personal hardships are a unique characteristic that he brings to the players that come through his academy.

“I take my life lessons of playing at multiple levels in multiple leagues, and I feel like I can relate to a lot of these young players,” he commented. “I watch kids in our program leap frog other players at their position, and that’s very rewarding to me. I see them devote time, effort, sweat and commitment into their craft, and I truly appreciate what they are doing.

“Their hard work translates to success on the field, and I love being part of that.”

Jake Rudock QB St. Thomas                                                        Jake Kistel QB Bishop Verot

SunStateFootball.com

Feb 4, 2010

The 2010 class is now behind us and SunStateFootball.com brings you an early look at some of the players for the 2011

class, starting with the QBs. On average, the state of Florida sends between 14-20 QBs to the D-1 level.

Quarterbacks

Northwestern’s Teddy Bridgewater entered the radar as a sophomore when he led the Bulls to the state title game, he

followed that up with a solid junior campaign which saw an earlier than expected second round loss to rival Miami

Central. Bridgewater is blessed with all the tools including WR athleticism and the arm strength to get the ball down the

field. He will need to make major strides however as a QB, particularly his mechanics which need to be cleaned up. On

the flip side, Bridewater is certainly a gamer and there is plenty of time left to develop. He could easily move to WR if QB

does not work out.

Up the road a bit resides Chaminade’s Jerrard Randall, he has a rifle for an arm, but needs to get more consistent,

particularly on the short and intermediate routes. Randall is a tremendous running threat and easily could play another

position. He is a great fit as a QB in an offense like Oregon and there is rumored mutual interest there. Staying in

Broward is Plantation’s Imonni Carswell. He has an above average arm and some athleticism to make plays with his feet.

There might not have been a better two way player in the state than South Fort Myers Dallas Crawford last season. The

rising junior started at QB for the third straight year putting up impressive numbers while intercepting 10 balls on defense

at Safety. Crawford is an excellent QB, but at 5′10 his future probably resides at WR, CB, or S. He has elite play-making

ability, we are talking a player that is always in on the action and possesses terrific quickness.

Hagarty’s Jeff Driskel has prototype size and is considered the top QB in Central Florida. He is another signal caller that

will need to improve his passing skills, but the arm strength is there to work with. Driskel does not play on a great team

nor one that has elite speed, he will need some time to adjust to college football. Another plus sized Orlando Area signal

caller is Lake Nona’s Kevin Sousa, at 6′3 Sousa should attract plenty of interest. Dwyer’s Jacoby Brissett won the 4A title

as a junior and is a fantastic all around athlete—excelling on the hardwood as well as gridiron. As a QB, there is a long

way to go, but his 6′3, 230 size is very intriguing, he could find himself at TE down the road if QB does not work out.

Plant’s Phillip Ely and St. Thomas’s Jacob Rudock are the top two pure QBs in this class, both possess the mental

capacity to play the position and are ahead of the rest in terms of game management skills. Rudock is the bigger of the

two at 6′3 and had the better statistical year lighting up the scoreboard with the most TD passes ever thrown for the

Raiders. Rudock also excels on the baseball diamond, the most important thing for him is to add some weight and

strength. Ely won the 5A Title as a junior, Aaron Murray nor Robert Marve can claim that(both won 4A Titles as seniors).

He has a sleight build and stands 6′0, but he seems to be very ‘clutch’ and we think he still has a ways to go physically.

Staying in the Tampa Area, Jefferson’s Quentin Williams threw for more than 3,000 yards and chipped in 500 on the

ground, the dual threat athlete is simply a player. Williams has solid size at 6′0, 180, another inch or two would go a long

way for him as a prospect. He has rare ability to throw accurately to every level and has the arm strength to make every

throw. Robinson’s Blake Rice also led a deep playoff run, the QB was the core of the young team. Rice did not put up

gaudy numbers, but when asked to pass, he delivered. Tampa Catholic will have a new QB with Christian Green’s

departure, that QB will be a familiar name, Stevie Weatherford. The state of Florida has seen two other Weatherfords

(Drew-FSU and Joe-UCF) in the past decade, he will have big shoes to fill. Armwood’s Josh Grady is another QB that’s

future could be at another position, in his case Safety. Grady is a dual threat type that has had flashes of brilliance, he will

need to be more consistent to stay at QB.

Rakeem Cato has transferred from Miami Springs to Miami Central, he will now follow in the footsteps of one of Dade

Counties best ever, Jeff Godfrey. Cato is similar to Godfrey, he may not have as strong of arm(nor as accurate), but he

put up huge numbers as a junior. Bradenton Southeast’s Dyron Speight might be the sleeper in the state, the strong

armed junior has terrific accuracy and we expect him to build on a solid junior campaign next year. Speight has the

athleticism to run the football, but is more of a pocket passer, he uses his excellent feet to buy time.

Lake Wales Justin Shafer has considerable upside, the big issue with him is that he is considered a top baseball prospect

and has offers to play on the diamond(another worry is the MLB draft). Shafer throws like a baseball player, with some

time he could clean up the delivery and develop into a big time QB. Another top athlete is Pensacola Catholic’s Shaun

White, the intriguing play-maker will have an adjustment from the lower classifications of Florida high school football, but

has a lot of tools to work with.

Bishop Verot’s Jake Kistel threw for more than 2,000 yards and has sub 4.6 speed on a 6′2 frame. He needs to improve

his accuracy down the field. Sebring’s Matt Grubb finds stud Devin Clarke regularly, he has some potential down the

road.

Others QBs of Interest: Alphonso Evans, Lakewood, Geoffrey Bangley, Celebration, Quinton Hitchcock, Vanguard

Evaluation:  Excellent leadership qualities.  Coachable quarterback who works hard in all areas of his game.  Proven winner during his sophomore and junior year.  Shows good velocity on the football and anticipates the throws during short and intermediate routes.  West has a big upside as he has improved from his first season as a starter (sophomore) to his junior year.  Look for West to have another strong 2010 season being one of the top statistical leaders at quarterback in the state.

Participated in the 2010 Southwest Florida Winter Showcase: Displayed quick release, throws very well outside the pocket making accurate throws on all 3 levels.  Strong arm and consistent in his delivery.  Not an erratic quarterback as he stays consistent with his delivery within the pocket.

Southwest Florida Winter Showcase Passing Camp by Mastrole Passing Academy

1.16.10 Fort Myers, FL (Bishop Verot H.S.)
Mastrole Passing Academy hosted the Southwest Florida Winter Showcase at Bishop Verot High School.  Scout.com was in attendance evaluating local and statewide talent for the upcoming season.  Quarterbacks and receivers from Miami to St. Augustine were in attendance.  Quarterback Kyle West from (St. Augustine) showed a strong arm, accuracy, and quick release throughout the day.  Featured as one of the top quarterbacks for the 2011 class.  West lead a very strong St. Augustine while earning all league honors.  Jake Kistel (Bishop Verot) posted the top shuttle and 3 cone times for the quarterback group.  Kistel’s 4.22 seconds in the shuttle and 6.56 seconds in the 3 cone drill show why he will be a dual threat to opposing offenses next year.  Kistel also showed pinpoint accuracy on all his short and intermediate throws. Kistel will have the benefit of throwing to WR Matt Brewer (Bishop Verot) Brewer posted the fastest shuttle time of 4.55 seconds and tied Tyler Osorio (Celebration) for first in the 3 cone event 7.12
seconds.  Both Brewer and Tyler Osorio showed excellent hands while displaying the ability to move down field.  Osorio is a big physical receiver with a motor coaches look for at the next level.  Quarterbacks Geoff Bangley (Celebration) and Abe Coleman of (American Senior H.S.-Miami) can both put the ball in tight spaces and stretch the field.  Bangley has been recognized as one of the top quarterbacks in Florida for 2011.  Coleman, only a sophomore this past season, will look to be one of Dade county’s top signal callers.  Brothers Sage and Reece Attwood both have the ability to move the chains with strong arms and excellent fundamentals.  Reece (Baker) posted a 4.41 shuttle time wwhich was 4th best of the quarterback group.  Sage, will have the opportunity to compete right away once he steps foot on a high school field.  Still in middle school, this southpaw, has the size and the arm strength to be a future signal caller in Southwest Florida.  Other local talent, Charlie Cannaday (Gulf Coast H.S.) and Kenny Mouton have the arms and the legs to make plays for their respected teams. Cannaday will benefit from a pass heavy offense and the ability to distribute the ball quickly to multiple receiver sets.  Cannaday displays excellent technique with excellent leadership qualities.  Mouton, Class of 2012, has all the tools to be one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in the state.  2011 will be a year he will have the opportunity to make game changing plays with his arm and legs.  Other quarterbacks that displayed strong arms, footwork, and accuracy were: Evan Hart (Fort Myers).  Hart will be competing for the starting Varsity job in 2011.  Paul Balcomb (North Port H.S.) showed a very strong arm during the camp.  Has the ability to fit the football into tight spaces with a strong arm.  TJ Douglas moved well while performing well during the receiver quarterback session.  One name to keep an eye on is quarterback Jacob Jessup (Sarasota) Class of 2015.  This next generation gunslinger stood toe to toe with quarterbacks 3 and 4 years older.  Tyler Harless (Port Charlotte)  performed well in the roll out and boot series.  Coaches were impressed with his work ethic and arm.  TJ Nelson (Fort Myers), David Farrugia (Gulf Coast H.S.), JT Etnoyer (Mariner).  Etnoyer, only a sophomore, this past season has the tools to be a very good quarterback in 2011.  Nelson, Fort Myers, had a great day of throwing and running during the footwork, agility, and pocket presence drills.  Daniel May (Hollywood Hills) will be another name Broward county coaches will be facing week to week.  The potential to be the best quarterback Hollywood Hills H.S. has produced in some time.  May has the arm and the height to be a top signal caller.  The receivers group were led by Gulf Coast High standouts Kendric Mouton, Chase Kerlek, Tyler Blajian and Anfernee Warner. Both receivers will look to have a big 2011 season for the Sharks.  Nick Perry (Bishop Verot) will be another option for the viking offense.  Former College coach and now head coach of Bishop Verot, Phil Dorn,  will look to continue where his Vikings left off with a strong armed quarterback and sure handed receivers.  George Ruesca (Mariner) has the ability to be one of the top wide outs for Coach O’brien’s team in 2011.  Displayed soft hands and a knack fro going after the ball.  For More information regarding upcoming camps and events visit www.passingcamp.com

Larry Bluestien say’s…….. For every Division 1A football player that receives a scholarship to attend college, there are hundreds and hundreds who are simply left out of the mix when it comes to one of the most important decisions of a lifetime.

Attracting scholarship money from colleges and universities has become one of the main objectives of parents, coaches and players, who in these tough economic times, need financial assistance in getting a college education.

On Feb. 20 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m, Elite Scouting Services and the Broward County Athletic Association are teaming up to help those athletes who would like to play at the next level, but have never received the proper exposure.

ESS expects 50 or more college coaches from NCAA Division II/III/NAIA to scout perspective Student Athletes. All of these schools have scholarships, Grant, and Aide MONEY.

“It’s truly an opportunity of a lifetime,” said Charles Fishbein, President of Elite Scouting Services. “This small college recruiting combine will give these players a second chance to impress, and that’s what is exciting about the entire process.”

The event, which is held at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, will help student/athletes showcase their skills that many have missed over the past year. It’s a chance for them to achieve that goal of going to college to play football and receive a quality education.

“I have been placing athletes for over three decades,” said Larry Blustein, who not only works with ESS, but with the Miami Herald and WQAM (560 AM Radio). “This combine is easily the best thing that has come along. It is really a golden opportunity to show colleges what they can do from an athletic standpoint.”

Mastrole Passing Academy’s and St. Thomas Aquinas junior quarterback Jake Rudock leads the Raiders to a key playoff win while breaking the single season school touchdown record with 31.

Rudock leads Raiders to easy romp

Quarterback sets season record with 31 touchdown passes

Special Correspondents

November 27, 2009

Fort Lauderdale – Jacob Ruddock made quick work of South Broward in the Class 5A regional semifinal game at Brian Piccolo Stadium on Friday night.

Rudock passed for 157 yards and four scores and added a 1-yard scoring run as the nation’s top ranked team St. Thomas Aquinas rolled to a 49-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 63-0 Class 5A regional semifinal victory over South Broward.

The two-defensing state champion Raiders will play at Ely in a Regional Final on Friday

In the process, Rudock also set the Raiders’ single season mark for TD passes with 31. The 6-foot-3 inch, 180-pound junior quarterback eclipsed the previous mark of 30 set by Ryan Becker last season when he hit a streaking Phillip Dorsett for a 33-yard score with 3:24 remaining left in the second quarter for a 42-0 lead. Rudock also threw TD passes of 29, 6, and 21 yards in the Raiders’ 36th consecutive victory.

“The record doesn’t matter as long as we are winning games,” Rudock said. “I had no idea the season would be like this. I just kept doing what the coaches tell us. This trip started all the way back in Ohio and this is part of the journey.”

“We played pretty well,” said St. Thomas Aquinas coach George Smith. “What we are trying to do is get better as the post season goes along and that’s what we have been doing.”

The Raiders (12-0) fumbled on its first possession, but didn’t let that bother them as they scored the next seven times it had the ball in the first half and forced a running clock in the second half.

South Broward (10-2), which lost to the Raiders, 51-7 three weeks ago, failed to gain a yard or complete a pass in the first quarter and failed on two fourth down plays deep in their own territory in the second half to get a first down as the Raiders blew the game open.

Quarterback and Receiver Training In South Florida

4x6 Advertising card (Front)

Coach Ken Mastrole has created a program for quarterbacks and receivers that will allow each athlete to maximize their physical and mental potential.  Ken Mastrole understands the quarterback position because he has played it at all levels from High School to the NFL.  Coach Mastrole has also coached at many levels and has been tutored by former coaches that have developed NFL pro bowl and Collegiate All American quarterbacks.  Teaching the position is more then just placing athletes through drills and giving them all the same coaching advice.  Each quarterback is different in the way they throw, think, and react.  Understanding each athlete’s mechanics, how they process the information given, and their  overall mind set is the key to coaching this position.  The quarterback is unique in the way he throws a football and processes the information in front of him.  Developing the mind is just as important as the body.  Our program strives to build leaders on and off the field.  Video analysis, core strength training, footwork, film study, competition, recruiting exposure, and proper technique is what makes Mastrole Passing Academy athletes so successful.  Contact Coach Mastrole by email coach@mastrolepassing.com or phone 239.919.4325 and discover the ability you have inside.  Our quarterback and receiver sessions take place in Fort Lauderdale and Naples Florida throughout the year.

NFL Considering Future Expansion Team in Europe

NFL PONDERS A BRITISH INVASION

Roger Goodell Considering an Expansion Franchise in London

London, England (Sunday, October 25, 2009) – For the third consecutive year, the National Football League played a sold out regular season contest at Wembley Stadium in London today as the New England Patriots knocked around the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a tally of 35-7.  And if NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell gets his way, the annual trip will soon become an eight-game stop for the league.

“We’re thinking about it,” Goodell recently commented when asked about the prospect of a British expansion franchise into the NFL.  “As long as we continue to get a positive reaction, the possibility is that we could bring the sport here on a full-time basis.  To own the first international franchise would be a pretty cool thing.”

Playing American football in Europe is far from being a new concept, with the first time the NFL anchored in England being a 1983 preseason match-up that saw the Minnesota Vikings defeat the St. Louis Cardinals, 28-10.  Originally founded as the World League of Football, the NFL Europe played for 15 seasons as a developmental league to the NFL and was widely popular.  The league, which played in the spring, came to a halt following the 2007 season when five of  the six teams were based in Germany and the NFL was losing an estimated $35M annually.

One player who knows first-hand how football is perceived in Europe is Mastrole Passing Academy founder and former Amsterdam Admirals quarterback Ken Mastrole.

“Playing in the NFL Europe was similar to playing in an All-Star Game because you had all these talented players, but you had to play with a simplified playbook at the same time,” he reflected.  “There are 32 different systems being run in the NFL, and it just wouldn’t make any sense to have players learn a complex game plan while they played in Europe.”

As far as the success of an expansion franchise in London, Mastrole doesn’t necessarily think that the British are ready to adopt a full-time NFL team.

“Europe is predominately soccer and rugby, and I’m not so sure how an NFL team in London would do,” he remarked.  “The potential exists to grow football there, but people would have to start playing at the youth level for it to truly work.  Something else that cannot be overlooked is the fact that there are so many behind-the-scenes costs that it would take to run a franchise overseas.”

When the NFL Europe closed up shop in 2007, Mastrole couldn’t help but admit the news came to him as a disappointment.

“I was disappointed because it created a great opportunity for those players that never really got a chance to play and fell through the cracks,” he said.  “I’m all about players having another avenue to play football, and I feel that there is a lot more Kurt Warners out there.”

Warner is the most notable of the NFL Europe alumni, having won a pair of MVP awards and making three Super Bowl appearances since he got called up to the NFL.

Without question, football is growing into a truly global sport, and making an annual stop overseas is a brilliant move in terms of the marketing of the NFL.  Merchandise that was formerly contained within our own borders now sells fairly well in pockets of the European continent, and that number has grown significantly over the past three years that the NFL has sold out Wembley Stadium.

While there is no doubt that football is king in the United States, let’s not forget that football is referred to as American football outside of our national borders, and that really answers the question of how the game is perceived internationally.  Before the NFL goes too crazy with their current European experiment, they have to remember that the global game outside of our country is and always will be soccer.  Except outside of our country, it’s called football.  Ironic, huh?

Player Spotlight Jupiter Christian Receiver Austin Talbott

This week’s newsletter features Jupiter Christian’s rising sophomore wide receiver Austin Talbott.  Austin, who has become one of the focal points for the two time State champs has been making plays well before the first snap of the 2009 season.  His presence in this past Summer’s 7 on 7’s combined with his showing at the 2009 South Florida Summer Showcase placed him on the receivers to watch list.  ”Austin’s versatility combined with his clutch hands and work ethic place him in a position to be a staple in any offense” says Mastrole.  Last week Austin came up big in his teams win when he hauled in a difficult 63 yard touchdown pass.  This proved to be one of the key plays that changed the outcome of the game.  An excellent student and leader on the field look for Talbott to continue to help Jupiter Christian’s winning ways in 2009.

Evaluation on Austin Talbott Wide Receiver #2:

Versatile athlete who can play the slot position and the outside receiver along with returning punts and kicks.  Excellent focus and understands the importance of catching the ball at the highest point.  Runs cleans routes and has an excellent double move.  Excellent character and very coachable.

The Mind Set and Preparation of a Winning Quarterback

Did you see this past weekend’s college football games? What impressed you the most about the young guns for Michigan, Miami, and USC?  Was it their ability to throw the ball in tight spaces or lead the game winning drive with 80,000 plus fans screaming for failure? Do you remember how both UM quarterbacks threw critical interceptions that seemed to be momentum changers and game breakers?  Did you see their demeanor on the sideline?

It didn’t phase either one of them for a second.  Both these quarterbacks showed poise and confidence as they led an entire University down the field and winning it in heroic fashion. My point is that to play quarterback you must have the mind of a leader. In adverse times, your teammates and coaches will be looking to you to lead them out of the depths of failure.

Do you have this mind set?  When you throw an interception or miss a wide open receiver, do you hang your head or show others around you that you’ve been defeated?

Your confidence and body language can be the deciding factor in how your teammates respond in good and bad times. At Mastrole Passing Academy, we will provide you with the mental development to become a strong minded winning quarterback.

Are you ready? Down by five with two minutes left… can you lead your team to victory?

Player Spotlight Mastrole Passing Academy QB Rafi Montalvo

This week Mastrole Passing Academy spotlights Junior quarterback Rafi Montalvo from Immaculata La Salle High School in Miami, FL.  Montalvo, who has already started off the season passing for over 250 yards and 2 TD’s in his first game has established himself as a player to watch this season.  In today’s game the opportunity to have a quarterback who is successful on the field and in the classroom is hard to find.  This two sport, football and lacrosse star, has the ability to change the outcome of any game he plays.  The combination of speed (4.6 sec in the 40) and strength is what makes number 12 a threat through the air and on the ground.  Rafi displayed pinpoint accuracy and arm strength during the 2009 South Florida Summer Showcase.  “Having that dual threat ability is what coaches in college are looking for” says Mastrole.  “The added bonus is that Rafi is one of the hardest working kids that have stepped foot into the program and continues to improve with each practice and game.  His leadership traits and focus in the classroom is what makes this quarterback special ” adds Mastrole.  Montalvo and his team will be looking to face Pine Crest High School next Thursday September 17th.  For more information about quarterback Rafi Montalvo or the Mastrole Passing Academy visit www.passingcamp.com

Mastrole Passing Academy Spotlights St. Thomas Aquinas QB Jake Rudock

This week Mastrole Passing Academy spotlights the 6′.3″ St. Thomas Aquinas junior quarterback Jake Rudock.  Jake led the #1 ranked Raiders into Ohio State stadium to take on Upper Arlington this past Saturday on ESPN.  Rudock finished the game 7 of 10 with 2 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing.  Jake showed to be a dual threat on the ground and in the air executing the option and passing to perfection.  To know #15 is to understand his passion for the game and his will to outwork those around him.  Whether it be on the football field, baseball diamond, or in the classroom Jake displays the true characteristics of a leader and the work ethic for others to follow.  Carrying a 4.43 GPA in the classroom while balancing two sports is no easy task.  What is most impressive about Jake is his ability to stay focused and calm in any situation that presents itself.  To be a consistent and successful quarterback one must have the ability to control their emotions while leading others.  ”Jake’s preparation and determination this Summer is why he has put himself in a position to succeed” adds Mastrole.  Jake capped off a strong Summer by winning the quarterback challenge at the 2009 South Florida Summer Showcase.  This strong armed junior quarterback will continue to lead his Raiders against Boyd Anderson.

This week kicked off the start of the 2009 season with a glimpse of talent from around the state of Florida and how each player and team prepared in the off season.   Mastrole Passing Academy congratulates some of the top performances this week and will continue to spotlight their athletes throughout the season.  Junior quarterback Jake Rudock (St. Thomas Aquinas) lead the number one ranked program in the country on ESPN with his 7 of 10 for 141 yds and 2 touchdown performance.  Sophomore quarterback Max Lescano (St. Thomas Aquinas) looked to be the future of the Raider offense proving his ability to expand the pocket.  Junior quarterback Rafi Montalvo (Lasalle Royal Lions) passed for 2 touchdowns with over  70% completion percentage.  Senior quarterback A.J. Messina (Olympic Heights) and sophomore tight end Blake Davis (Olympic Heights) both played well while earning a win.  A.J. passed for a touchdown and was very effective helping the offense rack up 33 points.  Davis anchored the line and continues to excel in the passing game.  Senior wide Receiver Shawn Corker (Cardinal Gibbons) continues to prove why Texas Tech left their own backyard for this highly touted receiver.  Corker had a touchdown catch and made several acrobatic catches proving once again to be the reliable big play receiver for the Chiefs.  Sophomore quarterback Brock Bukowski (Royal Palm) continues to knock on the door of the starting job in just his second high school football season.  Super sophomores wide receiver Austin Talbott and quarterback Kedric Bostic (Jupiter Christian) are continuing to show why they will be one of the top 1-2 punches at their positions.  For now Austin is proving to be one of Marshyl Rothman’s go to receivers catching 5 passes for 91 yards.  Look for a jump in points for the American Patriots when sophomores quarterback Abe Coleman and wide receiver Caylin Mcbeth line up together.  This tandem features a savvy strong armed quarterback with an excellent sure-handed speed receiver.  Junior quarterback Alex Pratkas (West Boca) shows glimpses of greatness.  at 6′.4″ with a strong arm and quick release Alex has the ability to dissect defenses in the passing game.  Mastrole Passing Academy recognizes those athletes that have dedicated themselves to reaching their goals on the football field and in the classroom.  The combination of hard work and a world class quarterback and receiver training program allows our athletes the opportunity to elevate their game above the rest of the playing field.

Leadership can be described as the “process of social influence in which one person can enlist the help and support of others in the accomplishment of a common goal or task”.  The quarterback position has always been linked to the word leadership in the game of football.  What embodies a leader is hard work, dedication, discipline, and the ability to lead others.  The quarterback has the ability to change the mind set and elevate the game of those around him.  Average players will perform at higher levels when strong leadership qualities of another athlete is present.  What sets Mastrole Passing Academy apart is the ability to educate young men on not only the necessary skills to succeed on the football field but to also understand how to excel in all areas of their lives.  Our emphasis on hard work, concentration, and dedication on the football field and in the classroom will set these athletes apart from the rest of the competition.  Wanting to be great and working to be great are two different mind sets.  The athlete who is driven to perfect his craft will be the one who sets the bar for others to reach.  Mastrole Passing Academy wishes all of it’s athletes the best of luck heading into the 2009 season and will be following their progression throughout the year.  We thank you for training with the elite quarterback and receiver program in Florida.

Resolution Sports to Assist Academy with Marketing Efforts

Naples, Fla. (Friday, August 13, 2009) – The Mastrole Passing Academy is pleased to announce today that they have reached a marketing partnership with Resolution Sports, a national sports communication business based out of Atlantic City.  With the announcement, the two groups will work collectively on a variety of levels to increase their visibility throughout the nation.

“With a great staff beside me, we have seen some talented players significantly advance their skill set through the Mastrole Passing Academy,” founder Kenny Mastrole remarked.  “The time has come now where we are looking for strong partners help us develop as a business, and that is why we have chosen to link together with Resolution Sports.  Look for great advancements to occur as a result of this collaboration.”

The Mastrole Passing Academy is based out of South Florida and provides developing athletes with the unique insight and training that is required to be successful to reach the highest level in the sport of football.  Among those joining Mastrole on staff is Magic Benton, the most decorated receiver in the history of the af2, former Miami Dolphin wideout Jim Jenson and former NFL player Art Hall.

As a player, Mastrole attended the University of Maryland where he was a two-year starter and team captain.  He was then signed by the Chicago Bears in 2002 and went on to have a flourishing career with the Amsterdam Admirals (NFL Europe), Detroit Fury (Arena Football League) and Dallas Desperados (AFL) before capping off his career by winning the 2004 ArenaCup with the Florida Firecats.  He then picked up the coaching whistle as the offensive coordinator of the Firecats in 2005 and developed the top-rated offense and quarterback in the af2.

Resolution Sports was founded this past November by sports enthusiast John Archibald after he began to see his years of due diligence in the sports industry continue to create new opportunities. On a train ride home from his post as Director of Communications for the New Jersey Ironmen one evening, the concept of establishing a communication-based sports company came into his head. The foundation of Resolution Sports was created that very night, and Resolution Sports LLC was fully licensed and operational within a matter of three weeks. The company is now building an arsenal of goal-oriented partners in the sports industry such as the Mastrole Passing Academy, and the company works directly with those partners in a collective pursuit of achieving personal and organizational goals.  For more information about Resolution Sports, visit them on the web at www.ResSports.com or contact Archibald at jarchibald@ResSports.com.

“I am beyond excited about this announcement and it comes like a shot of adrenalin to Resolution Sports,” Archibald commented.  “I had the privilege of winning an arenafootball2 championship with Kenny Mastrole when he was the starting quarterback of the Florida Firecats and I was the Director of Communications, and I am so happy to see us form this partnership as we build the foundation of our own companies.  We have been to the top together in the past, and you can guarantee we will be there again soon!”

Stay tuned to www.PassingCamp.com for all of the latest developments of this partnership.

Mastrole Passing Academy Adds One of Miami Dolphins 50 Greatest Players to the Staff

Crash

Mastrole Passing Academy is pleased to announce the addition of former Miami Dolphin great QB/TE/WR/RB Jim Jensen. Jensen will be coaching and mentoring Tight Ends. Coach Jensen was on hand coaching tight ends and receivers during the July 24th-26th South Florida Summer Showcase. Jensen also spoke to the athletes about hard work, success through visualization, and confidence building. “Coach Jim Jensen is someone that has always had a deep passion for the game of football and helping young athletes develop not only physically but mentally as well.” Mastrole also added “The art of the tight end position is lost at times with teams moving to four and five wide sets or wing t styles. We wanted to place an emphasis on the tight end position and teamed up with one of the best to play the position.”

Nicknamed “Crash”, he played 12 seasons in Miami where his best years came while teamed with quarterback Dan Marino and legendary coach Don Shula. Jensen’s best season statistically was in 1989 with 65 receptions for 557 yards and 6 TDs receiving, with 8 rushing attempts for 50 yards, and 1 passing attempt and completion for a 19 yard touchdown. He was named the Dolphins special teams MVP in 1988. After 12 NFL seasons Jensen accumulated 229 receptions for 2,171 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also passed for two TD’s. In 1989, he caught Dan Marino’s 200th career touchdown pass. Jim was also the 1988 NFL Special teams player of the year and recently elected the 2006 Miami Dolphins “Unsung Hero”

Success rate of private quarterback coaching

The quarterback position is one of the most complex positions to play in all of sports. The proper throwing motion or balanced drop back is a trait or skill athletes are not born with. Becoming a great quarterback requires proper coaching, skill, and desire. Quarterbacks are not born. They are made. Athletes that begin to develop at an early age have a far greater chance to become collegiate and professional athletes. Today’s top quarterbacks from the high school to the pro level seek to be the very best through private coaching. Quarterbacks are now being evaluated before they take their first high school snap. Mastrole Passing Academy has provided an opportunity for each quarterback the necessary coaching and training to develop into an elite quarterback. Your future is an investment. The average cost of a college education can cost upwards to $100,000. The price of private coaching will provide you with a real opportunity to obtain an athletic scholarship. Private coaching is for the serious athlete who dreams of receiving a college scholarship and the chance to play major college football.

I have had the opportunity to train and coach two young men who were thought of as average high school football players. With their determination and will to succeed I helped them reach the ultimate goal. Tony Paoli, who attended the University of Buffalo received a scholarship and started on one of the biggest stages. Tony was a big, slow footed kid with an average arm. The academy helped him to discover the talent and leadership he had within. As a result, Tony fulfilled what was once a dream. Zach Angelos, was a undersized quarterback that was not even considered a high school starting quarterback at one time. We improved his accuracy, arm strength, agility, and pocket presence. Within a year Zach became the starting quarterback and has since gone on to become the starting quarterback for Norwhich University.

The choice is entirely up to you. I can take your game and your mind to a level no one but you and I could imagine. The lofty dreams and goals you set will soon become a reality through the program. We are committed to your future. Our emphasis on the mental and physical development of each quarterback is what will seperate you from the rest of the competition

Mastrole Passing Academy

Owner and instructor Ken Mastrole has taken Mastrole Passing Academy full time to South Florida.  After the Former Chicago Bear quarterback and Arena football offensive coordinator decided to focus on developing quarterbacks and receivers he decided to form MPA.  The academy was designed to develope athletes that are committed to reaching the top of their game.  The importance of delivery mechanics, eliminating extraneous wasted motion with release and drop speed along with the evolution of the throwing motion that gives the most power to a passer’s arm are all concepts with a high priority of emphasis throughout the academy’s circuit of instruction.

Ken Mastrole’s focus on wide receiver fundamental training has allowed athletes the ability to not only understand their weaknessess but  to build on their strengths.  Receivers have seen an improvement in hand eye coordination, agility, body control, and route precision.

Mastrole Passing Academy’s staff prides itself on providing the most advanced and technological teaching to each unique individual.  Through a series of camps, clinics, private, and group sessions each athlete will experience an increase in performance and self confidence.  We are professionals committed to providing you with the necessary ingredients for success.
